“Seeking a More Excellent Way: On the Leading Edge of Ministry”

June 9-12, 2024 at the Greenville Convention Center

Bishop L. Jonathan Holston, presiding

United Methodism embodies a decentralized form of organizational structure. The Annual Conference of South Carolina is both a yearly event and the primary element of leadership for our Conference’s local churches. Did you know that provisional and ordained clergy do not hold membership in a local church, but in the Conference where they serve? Very often the Annual Conference is envisioned as a time of voting on issues, but that is a small portion of this three or four day event. Clergy and laity meet together to celebrate ministries and be inspired, to license local pastors, celebrate retirees, award scholarships, participate in mission work, commission and ordain, and worship. We worship together because that is what we are called to do as disciples, and what we need to center our work on God. We are a part of the body of Christ, and as such we are tasked with many responsibilities. This is a time of holy conferencing and renewing our connection across our Conference. Central will send nine lay delegates and three clergy, but everyone is invited to come and participate! Even if you are unable to attend, you are asked to include our clergy and delegates and the entire Annual Conference in your prayers as we witness to the gospel and make plans for ministry!
