Each Wednesday in Lent, Central will hold a worship service at 12:00 PM in the Sanctuary, featuring either a guest preacher or a musical program. Before worship, a brief service of Holy Communion will take place at 11:30 AM in the Ingram Chapel. Lunch will be served in Spears Fellowship Hall immediately following worship.
This week’s preacher offers the opportunity for a teaching moment about how the United Methodist Church is structured. Our preacher on Wednesday is the Rev. Terry Fleming, who serves as the Florence District Superintendent. A United Methodist district superintendent (known colloquially as a DS), is analogous to a regional vice president in a secular corporation. District Superintendents sit on the bishop’s cabinet, oversee the administrative work of the church within a defined geographic area (known as a district), and serve as the chief missional strategist within that district. In a sense, the DS is the bishop’s representative within his or her district. We are blessed with a DS who is great at his job and is a first-rate preacher, so come on out this Wednesday for a meaningful worship experience. I hope to see you there!
Following the Midweek Lenten Worship Service, join your friends in Spears Fellowship Hall for a delicious lunch!
