A Discussion About Heartache: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church

  • Central United Methodist Church 167 South Irby Street Florence, SC, 29501 United States (map)

The struggle to remain faithful after heartache, disappointment, and betrayal is a reality for many people who have known inhospitality and describe themselves as “spiritual refugees”. This reality is especially true for many of our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters in Christ.

The Searching Disciples Sunday School Class will be hosting a series of informative meetings during the Sunday School hour (10:00 AM -11:00 AM) beginning Sunday, May 8. All – individuals, couples and/or entire Sunday School classes – are invited to “Learn and Discern” with us as we explore Reconciling Ministries within UMC. This discussion will be led by Rev. Mary M. Finklea, a local Lutheran pastor, who serves SC Lutheran Retreat Centers. Currently, four sessions are planned. We hope you will join us for this frank conversation regarding trauma in the church. Together we will discuss the ways in which the church can be a healing balm for a hurting world.
